The ups and downs of renovating a house

Outdoor kinda work

I have not mowed a lawn in years and years. And the hope was that I wouldn’t have to do it here as we were planning on getting more fake grass put in. But, alas, the virus came into our lives and we couldn’t move forward with our lovely small garden plan. Such is life.

What that meant though, is that our scraggly looking lawn needed to get mowed as the grass and weeds were growing quite abundantly following the mad amounts of rain that we had. Neither my husband, nor I, wanted to put a lot of money into a mower, especially for the size of the lawn, so we purchased the cheapest push mower we could. Yes, people, we own a lawn mower that is people powered. Just the right thing.

In addition, this long weekend, my husband and I did a double coat of protective paint on the shed/wood store, and today I filled up the wood store. Both sides are just about the right size for what we need (regardless, we’re not getting anything any bigger!).

Week(end)’s Work

Time to get a few things done, I thought, considering I was off work for a while. So, I started putting more things away and organising. We now have all of our books up on the built in by one of the fireplaces (yay, my cookbooks are back).

As my husband was still working, I needed his help for a few things. One that we did on the Friday was putting up my favourite picture, a map. We put it up on the far wall in our living room and it looks fabulous there.

We then went on to pressure wash our upstairs deck. It looked like no one has done any cleaning in ages, and the composite had a ton of algae on it. As the weekend was looking to be quite lovely, we wanted to be able to hang out there (despite having no furniture). The pressure washer we purchased, a Karcher, was brilliant! I can happily wander out there with my bare feet now! And can’t wait to get some furniture up there for lounging with a glass of wine or cup of joe.

The final thing we did this weekend was build a shed. We’ve been storing our firewood under plastic, which is not the best, and our tools are hiding under our table. We still have to treat the wood on the shed, but it’s built (hole drilling and whatnot). Quite pleased with it!

After I finish organising this week and put more things away, I’ll do a video tour of the whole place.
