The ups and downs of renovating a house

The built-ins

Our bedroom is in the converted loft, so we have all sorts of odd nooks and crannies. We also don’t have any closets or wardrobes. Due to the nature of the loft, we decided to hire a carpenter and have him build wardrobes and drawers. Below are the pics I took on the 3rd.

The husband’s new wardrobe – it’s more normally shaped but nothing normal would have fit so nicely!

The very large drawer system built in the angled roof portion. There will be space on top of the drawers to put other items. They have a lovely soft close system, too!

This photo was taken by our carpenter for his insta. It’s my corner wardrobe with hanging bar and cubbies.

And here are the final pics (have one handle to change as it’s a bit higher than the others but otherwise I’m quite happy):

We’re very happy with how they look. A lick of paint will just make them even better!

Next project – putting up blinds in the, apparently, custom made (thus oddly shaped) loft windows so that I don’t get woken up by the morning light.

New Light Fixtures & Fireplace

We finally have new light fixtures in the places where the previous owner took them away. So, lights in the lounge and the bedrooms. We kept the lights from the hallways. We still have to get lights for the kitchen but we’re waiting to do that at a later date.

The lights in the lounge area. Tried to go for something that was a bit of a mix between traditional and modern (as our kitchen will have a more modern feels, so it’s a nice transition).

The lights in our guest bedrooms (the first is also in my mother-in-law’s room)

Our bedroom, in the loft, has lower ceilings and is a lot more clean and modern so we went with this light. I just love the detail in it and how it looks on.

And finally, the fireplace. There may be boxes all over the place, but at least I get to enjoy a fire in a lovely fireplace, with my new mirror above it.
