The ups and downs of renovating a house

…or two

Archive for the month “February, 2020”

And now we own it!

Yes, we now own a house in Crouch End. It’s fabulous. It needs a bit of tlc and a personal touch but it’s going to be fabulous. Eventually, we’re going to put in a new kitchen and we’ll put in some carpets, but for now…here it is:

A detail from our front door.

The entryway – we have a LOT of stained glass in this house and awesome floors!

The living room. It was two rooms at one time but they opened it up. The fireplace at the far end has a working wood stove. The fireplace closest in the pic does not – plan is to put wine storage in there! We’re debating furniture placement and light fixtures as the sellers took most of them.

Love the small details (minus my funky athletic tights).

The current kitchen sans oven/stove and washing machine (for those not in the UK – washing machines in the kitchen are the norm – eventually, we’ll be moving ours upstairs). While the kitchen is workable, it’s on the older side, so we will be replacing it in the late spring/early summer.

The family bathroom. Yes, the sink is insanely large. No, there is not a shower. Not pictured, but we do have a shower/steam room as well on the same floor. One day we might make some changes. But not for a good long while.

As a book lover, this wallpaper makes me happy.

The husband and I will have our bedroom on the top floor. It gives us a bit of separation from my mother-in-law (love her, but one needs one’s own space). We have our own shower room and a special suprise that you will see below.

Our small shower room.

Yup, a lovely area to sit right outside our bedroom. As the back of the house is south-facing, we’ll get a lot of sun there. Great for lounging with coffee or a glass of wine when the weather is decent!

There’s lots more to show but I’ll wait until we have the furniture inside.

Perhaps I’ll take a video.

And we begin again…

Well. We sold our house in Golders Green. In October. Yup, a long time ago (it feels like ages). We found a lovely house in another area of North London which will be a great fit for the three of us and is in a location we’re really excited about. We had an offer accepted in September and we just exchanged contracts on it. Yes, just now.

We went carpet shopping for two of the bedrooms because we’d love to have it in before we move into the house. It may not happen quickly enough but that’s fine. We’ll make it work.

For my MIL:

Cormar Carpet, Gemini in Somerset Ash

For my husband and myself:

Cormar Carpet, Gemini in Norwegian Blue

We’re meant to exchange on Friday and will take pictures soon after, so you can see the place. Lot so decorating to do!
